About Ångström Droids

Ångström Droids builds the foundational technologies that enable precision automation. Our work is grounded in advanced robotics, real-time FPGA compute, sensor fusion, and optical metrology — the building blocks of systems capable of manipulating and measuring the physical world with extreme accuracy. We believe automation should be reconfigurable, intelligent, and fundamentally precise.

Our philosophy is rooted in modularity and scientific rigor. From high-bandwidth actuator control to interferometric measurement pipelines and automated manufacturing workflows, we design general-purpose architectures that support everything from robotics research to production automation. We also leverage Direct Digital Manufacturing methods to rapidly create precision components, allowing us to explore new actuator designs and physical automation systems faster than traditional engineering cycles.

Our background includes pioneering work at Starbridge Systems, where the FPGA programming language VIVA and the world's first FPGA-based Hypercomputer were developed — advancing the state of high-performance computing and reconfigurable logic. That expertise later led to Haddington Dynamics and the creation of the award-winning Dexter robotic arm, a high-precision system powered by FPGAs programmed in VIVA. Haddington Dynamics earned global recognition, winning the 2018 Hackaday Prize for innovation in open hardware and advanced robotics.

Ångström Droids builds on this legacy of innovation — advancing modular precision platforms for actuation, sensing, and digital fabrication. Our mission is to provide the tools that make high-accuracy automation scalable, accessible, and adaptable for research, industry, and the future of engineering.
